May 16, 2022 – It was a weekend of progression for Max Opalski during rounds five and six of the Idemitsu Mazda MX-5 Cup Presented by BFGoodrich® Tires at the legendary Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio. With the goal to learn and gain experience with each passing event, Opalski completed every race lap over the weekend en route to twelfth and fourteenth place results in the strong twenty-nine driver field.

“I am learning every time I go out on track,” explained Opalski. “I am thankful for my partners and Copeland Motorsports for all the help that they provide. I able to learn from my teammates and progress every weekend, and that is the goal as I look to be a better driver in the future.”

After running eighteenth and twenty-third quick in the two practice sessions, Opalski was able to make a big jump forward in qualifying to score the thirteenth fastest lap time and inside row seven starting position for the first wheel-to-wheel action of the weekend.

Opalski added, “During the first race, we had steady progress as I was able to move forward after falling back to finish fourteenth. The race ended up being only nine laps, so it was hard to make any forward progress, but I am happy to finish and finish close to where I started and turn a lap time that was inside the top-ten.”

With the lap times from race one setting the starting grid for race two, the Colorado resident was able to secure a top-ten starting position in P9. As the quickest driver within the Copeland Motorsports trio, Opalski was ready to see if he could move forward and challenge for a top-five result. With only a single caution lap in the twenty-eight-lap race, the number two entry would close his final on track session in the twelfth position.

“The results were not what I would have wanted, but the goal was achieved,” commented Opalski. “We completed every race lap which was the number one task after having some issues in both Daytona and St. Pete, and with that I was able to finish in the front half of the field. I will take it and move on to the next one.”

With six weeks off, Max Opalski will begin to train and prepare for rounds seven and eight of the Idemitsu Mazda MX-5 Cup Presented by BFGoodrich® Tires program at the 3.37, 11-turn Watkins Glen International Raceway over the June 23-26 weekend.
